Went by the B&Q after work to pick up a couple of light bulbs to replace burnt out fixtures. My bag was full with the lunch box and the light bulbs so I kept my umbrella dangling on my wrist. Unfortunately, it wasn't dangling any more when I got to the bus station. I even retraced my path through the shopping center looking for the umbrella, but in vain.
Of course it was hardly worth the bother to spend even that much time. But that umbrella was the one I bought on the London streets nine years ago when I realized that I was one dumbass tourist who didn't think to bring rain gear to England. The automatic spring mechanism was starting to weaken a bit, but it was still my daily companion on the commute. Sentimental value aside, it's notable enough for me to have anything for that long without losing it somewhere already. Not much to do other than to move on, I suppose. Thankfully the SO has plenty of portable umbrellas in her collection so I can grab one to have in the bag for those sudden summer rains.
Back in the day...
Not that my technical skills stood out any at nerd central, so even that didn't work so great.
